The Triere

To make a ship even quicker and to get with it even more force with a ramming manoeuvre, it was developed from the Diere with her 2 oar rows the Triere with 3 rows, while one shifted the oar benches after the body to interpreter. This ship type dominated from the 6th to the 3rd century B. C. the seas and was built by all bigger maritime powers of the past and was used.

Also with this type the focus from the Rammtaktik was laid out at the beginning of the development. However, with the strengthening of the Roman empire the tactics of the ram changed for boarding. For this the Roman variations were equipped with Enterbrücken. Besides, ships were also equipped for the first time in the history directly with Wurfgeschützen like the Roman scorpion.
